Author Biography
Imants Gustavs Kins
This is my first novel. It has taken five years of planning, extensive research, readers reviews and numerous drafts to have this book published.
I am an economist and futurist with business experience in China, Japan and my favorite city New York. My main expertise is in the mineral exploration, mining and its downstream manufacturing industries. In 2004 I met a young Chinese woman who was the translator for the Chinese side, on a business trip to Beijing. Our short three-day meeting resulted in a long-lasting friendship. I have a now elderly and yet at the same time an extraordinarily energetic adopted “cousin” who is a born and bred New Yorker who lives in the Upper East Side of Manhattan. As a child she used to skip down 3 rd. Ave in the Upper East Side of Manhattan with Fred Astaire. I regularly stay with her.
In my high school (Poetry prize in final year) and university days I had poetry published. I am from my high school days a devotee of the 19 the century Romantic nature poet William Wordsworth. In 2012 with my wife Andra, we went on a 2-week pilgrimage to follow, feel and walk in the path of Wordsworth’s life. I have posted on Facebook for close on 5 years now my musings (with photographs) on my regular (most early morning Friday’s) kayaking on the Swan River. I am considering publishing these kayak experiences. Both to bring alive the other worldliness of River life and celebrate the life of my dearly loved kayaking partner Adrian Jones an artist/pianist, who sadly suddenly passed away early in January 2021.
All my life I have quietly nurtured my desire to be a writer. The time has come! Writing of my memoir and planning for my next fiction book is underway. I’m blessed that I can draw on my rich and diverse life experiences. .
